Fire at Tehran Refinery Claims One Life

The public relations department of Tehran Oil Refining Company announced on Wednesday, June 5, that a fire at Tehran refinery resulted in one death and one injury.
Reports indicate that on the same day, a fire occurred at Khuzestan Steel Company.
The previous day, an extensive fire broke out in passenger train cars in Islamshahr, and in recent days, various reports have been issued about fires in forests, rangelands across the country, as well as Chitgar Park in Tehran.
Hamid Reza Jafari, public relations director of Shahid Tandguyan Tehran Refinery, told the Iranian News Agency (IRNA) on Wednesday that a gasoline leak and rapid ignition in one of Tehran refinery’s units caused the death of one worker and injury to another worker.
He stated that the gasoline leak and its mixture with environmental oxygen caused rapid ignition and caught refinery production line workers by surprise.
IRNA reported that the refinery fire has been controlled.
In November 2017, following a fire in one of Tehran Oil Refinery’s units, eight engineers and technicians of the complex were killed. The cause of that fire was also reported to be an oil product leak.
Simultaneously, Iranian media reported that part of Khuzestan Steel Company’s warehouses caught fire.
Tasnim News Agency reported at 20:30 Tehran time, citing Ibrahim Ghanbari, managing director of Ahvaz Municipality’s Fire Department and Safety Services, that the fire was still continuing in parts of the company’s warehouses and firefighters were working to prevent the fire from spreading to other sections of the company.
However, concurrent with this report, IRNA quoted Ali Mohammadi, managing director of Khuzestan Steel Company, as saying that the fire was controlled “in time.”
He also stated that no damage was incurred to the warehouses and industrial site of Khuzestan Steel Company in this fire.
On Tuesday, Iranian media reported an extensive fire in passenger train cars in Islamshahr. Masoud Morselpur, governor of Islamshahr, told Mehr News Agency that these cars were obsolete.
According to the report, 18 cars caught fire and the cause remains unclear.
In recent days, various reports have been published about extensive fires in forests and rangelands of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Lorestan, Ilam, and Khuzestan.
Iranian media also reported on Monday evening, June 2, an extensive fire in Chitgar Park in Tehran, and it is believed to have been intentional.
