First Transfer of Asylum Seekers from Britain to Rwanda

“Rishi Sunak” announced the first transfer of asylum seekers from Britain to Rwanda within the next 10 weeks.

Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of Britain, announced in a press conference yesterday that the first flight carrying asylum seekers from Britain to Rwanda will take place within the next 10 to 12 weeks, and the government has made special preparations in this regard.

According to Reuters news agency, he said in response to a question about “Britain’s membership in the European Convention on Human Rights” that he is confident this plan is in line with all of Britain’s international commitments. He also added: “We have put an airport on standby. We have reserved chartered administrative aircraft for specific locations and we have 500 trained personnel ready to escort illegal migrants to Rwanda. If a choice must be made between national security and membership in a foreign court, I will always prioritize national security.”

The number of asylum seekers who entered Britain in the past two years is incomparable to previous years, and this congestion led to the Rwanda plan’s objective being approved by the British government during “Boris Johnson’s” tenure as Prime Minister in April 2022. This plan was approved because the entry of asylum seekers through the dangerous English Channel route to Britain using small and unsafe boats was occurring, which has so far caused the death and disappearance of many asylum seekers.

The aforementioned decision to transfer asylum seekers to Rwanda has drawn widespread criticism both inside and outside Britain, and legal measures have been taken to prevent its implementation. It should be noted that the first transfer of a number of asylum seekers to Rwanda was scheduled to take place in June of last year, but due to complaints against the government and intervention by the European Court of Human Rights, it was halted at the last moment.
