Five Death Row Inmates Transferred to Solitary Cells

Five security inmates sentenced to death at Urmia Prison have been transferred to solitary cells.

According to Hrana, five inmates in Urmia city who were sentenced to death on espionage charges were transferred to solitary confinement today, Thursday, December 28, raising concerns among their families and relatives.

The inmates in question are named Mansour Rasouli, Aran Omari, Rahman Parhazo, Vafa Honare, and Nasim Namazi. They were arrested in November 2021 by security forces and interrogated on espionage charges, and in March 2022 were transferred to the political ward of Urmia Prison. They were sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court on charges of participating in intelligence cooperation and espionage on behalf of Israel.

In April 2022, a video file of Mansour Rasouli, who introduced himself as a member of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and was interrogated by Israeli forces on Iranian soil, was published in the media. However, Mansour Rasouli announced in another video that he was kidnapped as a farmer and civilian and was pressured to confess to false information.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps also announced in another statement that the perpetrators of kidnapping and extracting false confessions who were in contact with the Israeli intelligence service had been arrested. The fate of the five inmates sentenced to death on espionage charges has now become a cause for concern due to significant ambiguities in their case files.
