Government Cabinet Resolution on 10% Wage Increase for Workers Annulled

The secretary of the social commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly announced the annulment of the government cabinet’s resolution regarding a 10% wage increase for workers contracted with the government, stating: “Accordingly, the wages of all workers contracted with the government will be implemented based on the Labor Law.”
On this basis, the wages of workers contracted with the government will increase by 57%.
Kiyumars Sarmadi Vali told ISNA news agency on Sunday, June 29: Based on the Labor Law, 57% was added to wages, but the minimum wage earners’ salaries reached 5 million and 700 thousand tomans with a considerable increase, and the rest are also included in this increase.
The government’s resolution regarding a 10% wage increase for workers contracted with the government came at a time when, according to official statistics, last year’s inflation exceeded 40% and the rate of price growth in the current year is even higher than last year.
In recent weeks, widespread nationwide protests by workers, teachers, and retirees have been held in protest against poverty, inflation, and low wages and salaries, which have been met with extensive suppression by security forces.
Mr. Sarmadi Vali further stated that according to the Labor Law, their wages should have been increased, but the government violated this and increased workers’ wages by 10%, which prompted parliament to intervene in the matter, and the law enforcement board annulled this government resolution.
