Governor: Number of Corona Patients in Khuzestan Has Increased by 200 Percent

Gholamreza Shariati, governor of Khuzestan Province, has announced a 200 percent increase in the number of coronavirus patients in the province over the past month.
Speaking on a television program Sunday evening, May 11, he did not provide precise figures for the total number of infected individuals and deaths from coronavirus in the province, but said the number of hospitalized patients has increased by 60 percent.
According to some reports, an average of 200 new cases have been recorded daily in Khuzestan Province in recent days.
According to Mr. Shariati, nine cities in Khuzestan are currently closed to prevent the spread of coronavirus, but “there is currently no need to prevent entry into cities.”
This statement came as Zein al-Abidin Mousavi, special governor of Abadan, announced on Sunday that the city would be placed under complete quarantine and the city’s entrances from Ahvaz and Mahshahr sides would be closed.
The governor of Khuzestan also said that coronavirus has a higher prevalence in the marginal areas of cities in Khuzestan Province.
The General Administration of Prisons in Khuzestan Province has also announced that tests of a number of prisoners “tested positive.”
In a statement issued by this administration on May 21, the number of these prisoners was not specified, and it was stated that the infected individuals “without needing hospitalization in medical centers outside the prison, are undergoing recovery.”
