Human Rights Organization Calls on UN to Prevent Suppression of Khuzestan Protesters

The Human Rights Organization on Sunday, July 18, sent a letter to Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, urging the international body to use all its capacity and resources to prevent the continuation of suppression against protesters in Khuzestan, emphasizing the violence committed against demonstrators.
The Iranian human rights organization expressed concern in its letter about the “continuation and complication” of conditions, referring to the killing and wounding of a number of protesters and their arrests.
Copies of the letter were sent to Javaid Rehman, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Agnes Callamard, UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial killings, Clement Voule, UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to peaceful assembly and association, and the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
Verified reports indicate that following the continuation of widespread protests in more than 17 cities in Khuzestan Province, at least two protesting citizens, identified as 30-year-old Mostafa Naeimavi and 17-year-old Qasem Khaziri, were killed by bullets fired by security forces.
Some local sources say the number of deaths has reached four, but this figure has not yet been officially confirmed.
Khuzestan Province is experiencing one of its hottest summers this year, and in recent weeks, temperature increases in the province have forced the closure of government offices in several Khuzestan cities multiple times.
In recent weeks, protest gatherings against power cuts and water shortages have taken place in various parts of Iran.
