Human Rights Watch Criticizes Rouhani Administration’s Handling of Blacklisted Students Case

Human Rights Watch has released a report addressing the situation of blacklisted students in Iran.
The report, referring to the situation of students who have been barred from continuing their education due to political activities, states that Hassan Rouhani heavily criticized Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his 2013 presidential campaign and accused him of having blacklisted numerous students during his presidency, preventing them from continuing their education.
The report states that during Rouhani’s own presidency, out of 500 requests submitted for the removal of educational deprivation, only 40 cases have been reviewed.
The Human Rights Watch report references the situation of Zia Nabavi, one of the blacklisted students who wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday that according to the Ministry of Intelligence’s opinion, his eligibility to continue his education has been rejected.
This international human rights organization further notes in its report that this is the time of year when many graduate school applicants who have participated in relevant exams discover that they have been denied the opportunity to continue their education.
