International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women; Latest List of Female Inmates in Evin Prison’s Women’s Ward

November 25 each year (equivalent to the 4th or 5th of Azar) has been designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This day was chosen to commemorate the universal commitment to combat violence against women. Female prisoners detained in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, most of whom are mothers behind bars, also welcome this day each year. On this occasion, Hrana publishes the latest list of residents of Evin Prison’s women’s ward, some of whom have been imprisoned for efforts to achieve this goal.
According to Hrana, the news agency of human rights activists in Iran, the United Nations General Assembly in 1999 designated November 25 as the International Day for the “Elimination of Violence Against Women.” In the women’s ward of Evin Prison, many female prisoners, including individuals who have been arrested and imprisoned for advancing this cause, are held.
Currently, 17 female political-security prisoners are present in the women’s ward of Evin Prison, showing a decrease in the ward’s residents compared to the list of 31 people released in Esfand 1395 (February-March 2017).
It should also be noted that adjacent to the known women’s ward in Evin Prison, there is a recently renovated facility that has recently witnessed the transfer of 16 women and 6 children. These individuals are accused of themselves or their spouses having connections and cooperation with ISIS.
The aforementioned prisoners are held in a separate facility from the location where political-security prisoners are detained.
It is recalled that in the following report, charges attributed to individuals are mentioned based on case documents, and their mention does not necessarily mean they committed them, especially under circumstances where the proceedings on these individuals’ cases have been conducted in an unclear and non-transparent manner.
