International Human Rights Community: Save Nasrin Sotoudeh’s Life
International human rights organizations have expressed concern about Nasrin Sotoudeh. Ms. Sotoudeh has been on a hunger strike for the past 21 days, and her life is now in serious danger.
According to international human rights organizations, the life of Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer defending prisoners in Iran, is now in serious danger after three weeks of hunger strike.
The International Society for Human Rights (IGFM) on Tuesday (September 1st) in Frankfurt, citing information from relatives of this Iranian political prisoner, expressed deep concern for the life of the Sakharov Prize-winning lawyer.
Nasrin Sotoudeh has refused the appeals of other political prisoners and human rights defenders and continues her hunger strike.
It is reported that in recent days, approximately six kilograms have been lost from the weight of this 57-year-old lawyer.
Ms. Sotoudeh began a hunger strike in Evin Prison in protest of the unfair and unjust conditions of prisoners despite the spread of the coronavirus.
Martin Lessenthin, spokesperson for the board of the International Society for Human Rights, emphasizing the dangerous physical condition of Nasrin Sotoudeh, said: “We ask the international community to exert greater pressure on the Iranian regime for the release of this brave defender of women’s rights.”
In recent days, thousands of people on social media have demanded Nasrin Sotoudeh’s release. Human rights organizations have expressed their support for such actions.
Nasrin Sotoudeh, who was sentenced to a total of 33 years imprisonment and 148 lashes on charges including “assembly and conspiracy against national security” and “spreading lies and disturbing public opinion,” has been behind bars since June 2018. According to Islamic Penal Law, 12 years of Ms. Sotoudeh’s prison sentence are enforceable.
