International Human Rights Community: Save Nasrin Sotoudeh’s Life

International human rights organizations have expressed concern about Nasrin Sotoudeh. Ms. Sotoudeh has been on a hunger strike for the past 21 days, and her life is now in serious danger.
According to international human rights organizations, the life of Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer defending prisoners in Iran, has become seriously endangered after three weeks of hunger strike.
The International Society for Human Rights (IGFM) on Tuesday, September 1st, in Frankfurt, citing information from relatives of this Iranian political prisoner, expressed deep concern about the life of the Sakharov Prize-winning lawyer.
Nasrin Sotoudeh has rejected appeals from other political prisoners and human rights defenders and continues her hunger strike.
It is reported that the 57-year-old lawyer has lost approximately six kilograms of weight in recent days.
Ms. Sotoudeh began her hunger strike in Evin Prison in protest against the unfair and unjust conditions of prisoners despite the spread of the coronavirus.
Martin Lässnig, spokesperson for the Board of the International Society for Human Rights, emphasizing Nasrin Sotoudeh’s dangerous physical condition, said: “We call on the international community to exert greater pressure on the Iranian regime for the freedom of this brave defender of women’s rights.”
In recent days, thousands of people on social media have called for Nasrin Sotoudeh’s release. Human rights organizations have expressed their support for such actions.
Nasrin Sotoudeh, who was sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison and 148 lashes following charges including “assembly and conspiracy against national security” and “spreading falsehoods and disturbing public opinion,” has been behind bars since June 2018. Under Islamic Penal Code law, 12 years of Ms. Sotoudeh’s prison sentence are enforceable.
