IRGC Threatens Fresh Attack on Iraqi Territory

A spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reiterated claims of “Israeli headquarters” presence in Iraqi Kurdistan and threatened Iraq with another attack.

Ramadan Sharif, in an interview with Al-Masirah network, affiliated with Iran-backed Houthi insurgents in Yemen, emphasized Tehran’s repeated warnings to Kurdish region officials about “several Mossad bases” in the area, stating that if Iraq fails to dismantle these bases, Iran will respond again.

During a ballistic missile strike on Saturday night, March 12, twelve ballistic missiles were fired at Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish region of Iraq, with the IRGC claiming responsibility for the attack.

Following the strike, Iraq’s Prime Minister visited the impact sites in Erbil, and Kurdistan officials along with the Baghdad government rejected Iran’s claims about Israeli bases, stating the missiles damaged a private villa and surrounding buildings, including a local television network.

Meanwhile, groups affiliated with the Islamic Republic reported in their news coverage that this action was carried out “in retaliation” for an Israeli drone attack weeks earlier on a site in Kermanshah.

Israeli media also recently reported, citing “various Lebanese and Israeli sources,” that during a drone attack several weeks ago on one of Iran’s sensitive military facilities in Kermanshah province, “hundreds of Iranian drones were destroyed.”

Ramadan Sharif also said on Thursday, referring to these reports: “We have the right to attack Zionist bases that target our security because this is Iran’s red line.”

These threats come as the Iraqi government, following the previous attack, formally lodged a protest with Iran’s ambassador over violations of Iraq’s national sovereignty by the Islamic Republic.

Meanwhile, Iraq’s Kurdistan Region Supreme Judicial Council also called for submitting the Iranian missile attack case to the United Nations Security Council.

On Monday, March 15, the council issued a statement saying the Iraqi government must take all necessary measures to counter violations of state sovereignty.

The statement also called on the Iraqi Parliament and international bodies to take “decisive and serious” action to stop Iranian missile attacks.

Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, Iraq’s Prime Minister, described the IRGC attack as “an aggression against the security of the Iraqi people,” and the United States also strongly condemned these attacks.
