ISIS Says Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s Son Killed in Syria

The group known as the Islamic State or ISIS says the son of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the extremist group, has been killed in clashes with Syrian government forces.

According to the Associated Press news agency, the announcement of the death of al-Baghdadi’s young son was published Tuesday night on accounts affiliated with the ISIS group on social media networks.

In these messages, images of him, who was identified as “Hudhayfah al-Badri,” are seen holding a weapon.

It is said that the son of the ISIS leader was killed in clashes with Syrian and Russian forces at a power station in Homs province, but no reference was made to the date of his death.

The Syria Human Rights Watch, based in Britain, says the last operations by ISIS fighters in that area took place in the first two weeks of last month (June).

News of the death of ISIS’s self-proclaimed caliph had been reported many times before, and while they cannot be confirmed with certainty, some believe he is still alive.

Little information is available about Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s family. In 2014, a woman and his daughter, who were reportedly the ISIS leader’s wife and child, were arrested in Lebanon.

Therefore, it is currently not possible to formally confirm whether Hudhayfah al-Badri, the young man reportedly killed in the Syrian war, was actually Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s son or not.
