“JD Vance”: We Must Not Witness the Erasure of Christians in Syria Like We Did in Iraq

“JD Vance,” Donald Trump’s vice president, announced in recent remarks his commitment to preventing the elimination of Christians in Syria.
“JD Vance,” Donald Trump’s vice president, spoke about supporting the Christian community in Syria during an interview with “Fox News.” Noting that American support for extremist paramilitary groups and the invasion of Iraq led to the destruction of one of the world’s largest historical Christian communities, he emphasized that this tragedy must not be repeated in Syria.
He also commented on recent violence by paramilitaries affiliated with “Abu Muhammad al-Jolani,” leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, against Syria’s Alawite community: “One of the consequences of our invasion of Iraq was that we destroyed one of the world’s largest historical Christian communities. We do not want to witness the erasure of another Christian community from the face of the earth. Unfortunately, when America encourages these extremist radicals, as mainstream media outlets call them, to take over a country, the religious minorities of that country, particularly Christians there, often disappear.”
But we do not want to witness another Christian community vanish from the world stage. We are currently in dialogue with our allies and have taken private measures to encourage them to protect minorities such as Christians, Druze, and other minority groups present there. This is truly shameful.”
JD Vance also added, referencing Trump’s statements during his previous presidency in 2013: “We must remember that Donald Trump, I believe in 2013, had said that very often when mainstream media outlets get behind these rebel groups, there are those who want to crash planes into our buildings (referring to the September 11 attacks). We must keep in mind who we are dealing with and must ensure that we support some of these historically minority communities. Certainly we do not want to send our soldiers to Syria, but from economic and diplomatic standpoints there is much we can do to protect those groups. I repeat, we do not want to allow the erasure of Christian communities to occur again in Syria.”
