Killing of Islamic Republic Opponent in Canada; Hamed Esmailioun Also Says He Has Been Threatened with Death

Concurrent with the announcement of the killing of an activist opposed to the Islamic Republic in Toronto, Canada, Hamed Esmailioun, who lost his daughter and wife in the downing of a Ukrainian plane by the Revolutionary Guards and lives in Toronto, also reported that he has been repeatedly threatened with death.
Canadian media reported on Friday, citing police, that a 50-year-old man was killed in his home in the northeast of Toronto on Wednesday afternoon. On social networks, many users, including Hamed Esmailioun, spokesperson for the Association of Flight 752 Victims’ Families, confirmed that the identity of the murdered person is Mehdi Amin, a former member of the board of directors of the Congress of Iranians of Canada. However, an official report from Toronto police regarding the details of this killing has not yet been released..
Hamed Esmailioun, who lost his wife and daughter in the Revolutionary Guards’ shooting down of a Ukrainian passenger plane and has been conducting extensive activities in recent months to pursue and prosecute the Revolutionary Guards’ shooting down of the passenger plane, announced on his Facebook page that he has been threatened with death in recent weeks.
Referring to the killing of Mehdi Amin, he wrote: “I did not intend to make the death threats public, but if any fingerprints of a foreign government are found in this killing, it seems that the foreign agents of the Islamic Republic are being sent on missions again.”
Mr. Esmailioun further emphasized that on the advice of his lawyer, he has been in contact with Toronto and federal police in recent weeks, and “comprehensive investigations will be conducted into all hateful messages, suspicious vehicles, strange calls, and death threats.”
Previously, U.S. authorities have repeatedly addressed terrorist activities of the Islamic Republic outside of Iran and stated that “the brutality and immorality of the Iranian regime knows no international boundaries.”
The U.S. State Department recently issued a fact sheet stating that the Islamic Republic has carried out 360 targeted assassinations in more than 40 countries worldwide.
This fact sheet notes that in addition to assassinating political opponents, ethnic and religious leaders and activists, and officials of foreign governments, the Islamic Republic regime has increasingly targeted journalists and social activists residing outside the country.
