Kurdish Political Prisoner Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison

A human rights group reported that Iran’s judicial system has sentenced Mohammad Hosseini, a Kurdish political prisoner, to 40 years in prison with exile to Urmia Central Prison.

The “Kurdistan Human Rights Network” website reported on Tuesday, June 24, that Mr. Hosseini was charged with “moharebeh” (enmity against God) through his membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, and was tried in the first branch of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court under the presidency of Judge Javad Ghavami.

The report adds that Mohammad Hosseini, from Naqadeh, left the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in 2017 following his separation from the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan after receiving an “amnesty letter” from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, and returned to Iran. However, after several months he was arrested and has been imprisoned ever since.

The “Kurdistan Human Rights Network” recently reported that another Kurdish political prisoner named Mohammad Moradi was sentenced to 40 years in prison with exile to Urmia Central Prison on similar charges.
