Military Service Purchase Plan Removed from 2023 Budget Bill

One day after the Budget Bill Commission for 2023 approved the purchase of military service exemption for 250 to 600 million tomans, the commission’s spokesperson announced the cancellation and removal of the military service purchase decision.
Hosein Bamiri, a member of this commission, told the IRNA news agency that the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces has sent a letter to parliament stating that it opposes the implementation of this plan.
Based on yesterday’s commission decision, holders of associate degrees and below were to pay 250 million tomans, bachelor’s and master’s degree holders were to pay 400 million tomans, and holders of general medicine diplomas and doctorates in specialized fields and above in all disciplines were to pay 600 million tomans to purchase military service exemption.
This decision sparked numerous negative reactions from social media users, with many describing it as beneficial only to the affluent classes of society.
According to Rahim Zare, spokesperson of the Budget Bill Commission, instead of military service purchase, it has been approved that married conscripts aged 30 and above with two children receive military service exemption cards for free.
In recent years, the Iranian government and parliament have passed numerous laws to encourage marriage and childbearing, and this law was also approved in the Budget Bill Commission in this regard.
