Minibus Collides with Trailer on Khavaran Road; 12 Injured, One in Critical Condition

A collision between a minibus and a trailer truck on Khavaran Road in Tehran has left 12 people injured, with one reported to be in critical condition.
Jalal Maleki, spokesperson for the Tehran Fire Department, stated that the accident occurred at around 5 a.m. on Thursday, December 9. The cause of the accident has not yet been announced, but according to Mr. Maleki, the minibus collided forcefully with the rear of a loaded trailer truck that was parked on the side of the road.
On Wednesday, a school minibus collided with a truck in Kermanshah, killing two students and injuring 14 others, with two additional students reported to be in critical condition.
Reports of fatal traffic accidents on Iranian roads, particularly over the past month, have become increasingly frequent.
According to traffic police authorities, more than 8,200 people died in road accidents in Iran during the first seven months of this year, with an average of three people losing their lives daily due to traffic incidents in Tehran.
Kamal Hadiyanfar, head of the traffic police, stated that in the first six months of this year, road accidents increased by 67,000 cases compared to the same period last year, reaching over 713 accidents.
Iran is among the deadliest countries in the region for traffic accidents. The highest death toll from road accidents in Iran over the past two decades was in 2005 with 27,000 deaths in a single year. According to official estimates, an average of more than 17,000 people died annually on Iranian roads between 2011 and 2019.
Iranian traffic police identify human factors, road conditions, and vehicle defects as the most important causes of road fatalities in the country, respectively.
