Morgan Ortagus: Islamic Republic Will Not Spend Money from Lifting Sanctions on Iranian People

The U.S. State Department spokesperson said on Thursday, March 27, in reference to an article by an American newspaper regarding the lack of need to reduce sanctions on Iran to combat the new coronavirus in the country: the Islamic Republic will not spend money from lifting sanctions on its people.
Morgan Ortagus, responding to yesterday’s editorial by the Wall Street Journal editorial board stating that despite the outbreak of COVID-19, the time has not come to reduce sanctions against Tehran, emphasized that the regime is seeking cash to finance its malicious activities, not to provide assistance to the Iranian people.
The article states that Iranian officials have called for lifting sanctions to provide medical and health services to the people; this is while Tehran’s proxy forces continue their attacks against U.S. forces and President Trump should resist these requests.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also wrote on his Twitter on Wednesday, April 7: Instead of looking for excuses to blame the United States in connection with the extensive mismanagement of his government regarding the outbreak of the Wuhan virus in Iran, Hassan Rouhani can better serve the Iranian people by saying “yes” to our proposal for providing humanitarian assistance.
