Nasrin Sotoudeh Will Not Appeal Her 12-Year Prison Sentence

Reza Khandan, the husband of Nasrin Sotoudeh, announced that the lawyer and human rights activist will not appeal her 12-year prison sentence.
Mr. Khandan told France Press on Sunday, March 17, that Nasrin Sotoudeh believes that the unjust proceedings in the Islamic Republic’s judicial system have rendered any appeal and petition for mercy ineffective.
According to Reza Khandan, Nasrin Sotoudeh’s 12-year prison sentence was issued based on the charge of “inciting to corruption.” Ms. Sotoudeh, who had represented several of the “Girls of Revolution Street,” protesters against mandatory hijab, and had supported their actions, faced this charge.
Reza Khandan, the husband of this imprisoned lawyer, had previously announced that in her latest case, Nasrin Sotoudeh was sentenced to 33 years and six months in prison and 148 lashes for multiple charges across two cases. She had previously been sentenced to five years in prison.
The issuance of this harsh sentence faced severe international criticism.
