Nateq Nouri: Supreme Leader is Aware of the Dimensions of Humiliating Corruption

Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri, the head of the office of inspection of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has said that Ayatollah Khamenei is aware of the dimensions and details of “humiliating corruption” in the country. He stated that files on violations by some banks are under the supervision of his office, and the results of inspections in this matter are regularly reported to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Nateq Nouri said in another part of his remarks that in one of his recent meetings with Ayatollah Khamenei, he told him: “How is it that if I wanted to, I could not recommend someone to a bank to receive a 10 million toman loan, but someone can easily receive a 350 billion toman loan from a bank with unrealistic collateral.”

The head of the office of inspection of Ayatollah Khamenei, in another part of his remarks, described the ranking of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of humiliating corruption and said: “When I study Iran’s ranking in corruption, I feel a sense of humiliation.” Nateq Nouri emphasized: “The fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ranking in corruption has declined from 86th to 136th is humiliating for the Islamic government of Iran.”

Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri described the source of widespread corruption in the Islamic Republic of Iran as governmental and said that if the Islamic Republic of Iran cannot prevent the spread of corruption in the country, it is because all the perpetrators of corruption are managers, officials, and members of government factions who are not dealt with because of “bribery” or out of “expediency.”

Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri continued by adding that two reports are sent to him weekly to the office of the Supreme Leader’s residence claiming that his name is being used to benefit from rent and privileges. Nateq Nouri then replied: “Whoever has a document about economic corruption by him and his children, as well as his son-in-law and relatives, should publish it.”

Nateq Nouri, who made these remarks in response to accusations by Faezeh Larijani (someone who himself and his brothers are controversial suspects of corruption in Iran), added: “The fact that some accuse others of corruption without evidence and documentation itself shows the depth of corruption in the country.”

In separate remarks, Masoud Khansari, the head of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, described corruption as a factor in economic backwardness and an important obstacle to foreign investment in Iran, saying: “Out of 160 business delegations that came to Iran this year, more than 60 delegations expressed concern about the existence of corruption in Iranian government agencies.”

Masoud Khansari concluded by saying: As a result of the expansion of corruption, “investment growth in Iran since 2011 has become negative, to the extent that to this day no large foreign investor has been attracted to Iran, in addition to the fact that national capitals have also left the country.”
