National Front of Iran Statement on Dr. Mossadegh’s Birthday: Walking Away from Negotiating Table is Sign of Inability

The National Front of Iran issued a statement on the occasion of Ordibehesht 29, the birthday of Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh, referring to the values he emphasized, including “freedom” alongside “independence” which provides the foundation for democracy.

In this statement, the National Front of Iran referred to the “intellectual patterns” of Iran’s Prime Minister from 66 years ago, including his “reconciliatory, transparent, and equal” conduct in the international arena, noting that Dr. Mossadegh never abandoned the negotiating table with the United States, Britain, and Russia.

Part of the statement reads: Dr. Mossadegh “considered walking away from dialogue and negotiation as a sign of inability of a national government, and considered concealment in international relations to be in contradiction with national sovereignty and democracy.”

The issuance of Dr. Mossadegh’s birthday statement comes at a time when the Islamic Republic’s security apparatus has repeatedly prevented members of the National Front and supporters of Dr. Mossadegh from gathering on various occasions. For instance, last month during the anniversary of Mohammad Mossadegh’s death, law enforcement officers prevented a number of citizens and National Front members from entering the village of Ahmadabad.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have increased over the past two weeks. President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated he does not want war with Iran, and this depends on the behavior of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The United States seeks to resume negotiations with Iran, but the leader of the Islamic Republic has so far opposed talks.

A year ago, Mike Pompeo presented America’s 12 conditions for renewed negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, which could include ending support for terrorism, financial aid to terrorist groups, halting long-range missile programs, and human rights violations.
