Official COVID-19 Statistics in Iran: Nearly 9,000 Deaths, 120 People Infected at One Wedding

Iran’s Health Ministry spokesperson reported for the second time in two months over the course of two consecutive days that coronavirus death toll reached triple digits in a single day, stating that 113 more COVID-19 patients have died.
With the new figures included, the total number of coronavirus victims in Iran according to official Health Ministry statistics has reached 8,950 people.
According to ISNA, Sima Sadat Lari announced on Monday, June 15th, that the total number of coronavirus victims in Iran is 8,950 people.
She also reported the identification of 2,449 new patients in the past 24 hours and stated that the total number of patients has reached 189,876 people.
According to Sadat Lari, 2,765 patients are also under special care in a “severe condition” from this disease.
The Health Ministry’s daily statistics on the coronavirus situation in Iran are being released at a time when some parliament members and city council members have previously accused the ministry of concealing statistics on coronavirus deaths and infections.
The Health Ministry spokesperson said in another part of today’s press conference that hospitalizations due to coronavirus have increased in recent days in Tehran, Razavi Khorasan, and Bushehr provinces.
He also named five provinces—West Azerbaijan, Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Kurdistan, and Sistan and Baluchestan—as areas in a red status regarding coronavirus spread.
Ms. Lari, emphasizing the use of masks and maintaining social distancing, called for avoiding wedding and mourning ceremonies and said: “At one wedding ceremony, 120 people became infected with the disease.”
11,000 Coronavirus Test Samples Go Missing
Mahmoud Alavi, the acting head of Khuzestan Health Center, has confirmed that out of 28,000 coronavirus tests conducted in the province, 11,000 samples have gone missing.
According to ISNA, he appeared on a television program on the evening of June 15th and said “We apologize to the people” and “This matter should be asked of the laboratory officials.”
According to Mr. Alavi, 4,000 visitors were also dissatisfied with the “method of sampling.”
Government Spokesperson: Coronavirus Remains the Government’s Top Priority
Ali Rabiei, the government spokesperson, said on Monday in his press conference, while emphasizing that the country has not yet entered the post-coronavirus era, that reports show that social distancing has not been properly observed in some religious places and public transportation vehicles, and added that “coronavirus remains the government’s top priority.”
According to Ali Rabiei, the rate of observing social distancing and wearing masks in the metro was 90 percent, but in other public transportation vehicles it was 30 to 40 percent.
Mr. Rabiei also said that some provinces have entered peak cases, but according to him, these provinces had not experienced widespread outbreaks before, and this is the first wave of the disease in these provinces.
