One Person Dies in Road Accidents in Iran Every 71 Minutes

Iran’s police force deputy commander announced that one person dies in road accidents in the country every 71 minutes.
According to Iranian domestic news agencies, Eskandar Momeni said on Wednesday, the 9th of Farvardin, that while referring to reduced average vehicle speeds, the number of accidents in the second wave of travels has decreased.
He stated that last year one person died on the country’s roads every 60 minutes, but this year this time has reached 71 minutes, although he noted that even this timeframe is alarming.
Iran is one of the countries with the highest number of deaths and injuries in road accidents. Although over the past decade, highway police have made efforts to reduce accidents especially during holidays and peak travel times and have succeeded in achieving a relative reduction in accidents, approximately 16,000 people still die in car accidents in Iran annually.
Road fatalities during this year’s Nowruz holiday remained significant despite a slight reduction. Musa Amiri, deputy head of traffic police, announced on the 2nd of Farvardin that only on the 29th of Esfand and 1st of Farvardin, road accidents resulted in 145 deaths and approximately 2,950 injuries.
These two days were among the busiest days in Nowruz travels.
