The Deputy for Social Affairs of the General Directorate of Social Welfare of Razavi Khorasan Province announced a 3.5-fold increase in child abuse cases in the province compared to last year. According to him, during the first three-month period of the current year, 1,850 public reports of child abuse were registered with the welfare organization.

According to Hrana news agency, citing IRNA, Gholamhossein Haqdadi, Deputy for Social Affairs of the General Directorate of Social Welfare of Razavi Khorasan Province, stated: “During the first three months of this year, 1,850 public reports of child abuse were registered with the province’s welfare organization, while this number was 504 cases during the same period last year.”

He continued: “This increase in public reports does not indicate an increase in the prevalence of child abuse, but rather reflects the public’s increased awareness of the welfare organization, the Social Emergency Center, and the telephone number 123.”

Haqdadi further stated: “The number of mobile missions and services last year was 530 cases, which decreased by 25 percent this year to 380 cases.”

He noted: “In total, during last year, 2,260 cases of child abuse that led to the presence of social welfare teams and emergency relief operations were registered in the province.”

The Deputy for Social Affairs of the General Directorate of Social Welfare of Razavi Khorasan Province, referring to the fact that the spread of coronavirus and the announcement of the 123 hotline to respond to family problems and issues arising from COVID-19 disease has increased contacts with this center, stated: “The number of contacts in the past five months of the year with the Social Emergency Center and the 123 line was 34,500 cases, while during the same period last year, these contacts were 4,200 cases.”

Haqdadi added: “The registered statistics show an eightfold increase in public contacts with the 123 line of the Razavi Khorasan welfare organization.”
