President Trump’s Response to IRGC Attacks on US Forces in Iraq: Everything is Good; We Have the World’s Most Powerful Military

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, in his first reaction to the attack by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps on US military positions in Iraq on the morning of Wednesday, December 9, wrote: Everything is good! Missiles were fired from Iran towards two military bases in Iraq. Assessment of casualties and damages is underway. So far everything is good! We, by far, have the strongest and best-equipped military in the world! I will issue a statement tomorrow morning.

On Tuesday night, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps launched a missile and rocket attack on the Ain al-Asad base, a large military base hosting US forces in western Iraq, as well as the US consulate in Erbil.

The Pentagon in a statement released an hour later announced that the military base hosting US forces in Erbil was also targeted.

The Pentagon stated an hour later in a statement: On January 7, at approximately 5:30 PM Eastern Time, Iran fired more than 12 ballistic missiles at US military forces and coalition forces in Iraq. It is clear that these missiles were fired from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases in Al-Asad and Erbil, which are home to US military personnel and coalition forces.

On Tuesday night, President Trump held a meeting with his national security team. At this meeting, Defense Secretary Mike Esper, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley were present.

Iran’s reaction is in response to the killing of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force, by the United States. Last Friday, the United States, on the orders of President Trump, killed Qasem Soleimani and the deputy commander of the Popular Mobilization Forces near Baghdad Airport.

President Trump says he ordered the missile attack on the former commander of the Quds Force because Soleimani was the organizer of attacks against Americans and Iraqis and intended to carry out further terrorist activities.

The US State Department on Sunday, December 15, tweeted: “Soleimani was not a hero. He was an Iranian killer, killed Americans, and thousands of others.”
