Prevention of Bond Posting and Release; Continued Detention of Shahr Hoseini in Evin Prison

Shahr Hoseini, a translator and civil rights activist who has spent the past 18 days detained in Evin Prison, has faced the prosecutor’s opposition to posting bail. Ms. Hoseini was transferred to Evin Prison on Saturday, December 30th, after appearing at the Evin Courthouse, where she faced an increased bail amount.

According to Hrana news agency, the news outlet of a coalition of human rights activists in Iran, Shahr Hoseini, a translator and civil rights activist detained in Evin Prison, remains in custody despite officials’ opposition to accepting her bail posting.

A source familiar with Ms. Hoseini’s situation told Hrana: “Ms. Hoseini told her family during a brief telephone call last week that she apparently must remain in detention until the court proceedings take place. She had two brief family welfare calls this week. Since Monday, December 31st, the prosecutor has refused to accept and release Ms. Hoseini despite the bail being set.”

Shahr Hoseini was arrested on September 2nd of this year by agents of the Intelligence Organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and transferred to the detention center of this organization, known as Ward 2A of Evin Prison. She was temporarily released on September 6th after posting a 500 million toman bail bond, pending the completion of legal proceedings.

During the arrest, agents seized some of her personal belongings, including a laptop, mobile phone, documents, and personal papers.

The charges against Ms. Hoseini during interrogation have been stated as cooperation with opposition groups and propaganda against the system.

She was again summoned on December 30th to Branch 2 of the Prosecution Office at Evin Courthouse under the supervision of Judge Haji Moradi, but after appearing at the courthouse, she faced an increased bail amount of one billion tomans and was detained. She was subsequently transferred to Evin Prison.
