Protests in Borazjan Over Water Crisis

In protest against the water crisis, this time the people of Borazjan in Bushehr Province held demonstrations in front of the county’s administrative office. Iranian media reported on “Borazjan residents’ request to authorities to regulate water distribution.”
The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that the gathering of Borazjan residents began on Saturday at 7 PM in Shahrivar 17 Square in the city, and “a number of” Borazjan residents, the center of Dasht Bezhan County, demanded from officials to organize the water situation in the county.
In videos circulated on social networks and YouTube, protesters chant in front of Borazjan’s administrative office: “If the governor doesn’t come, there will be a riot tonight,” “If there’s even one less theft, our problem will be solved,” and “Our problem is right here, they’re lying that it’s America’s fault.”
Protests spread from Khuzestan to Bushehr
In recent days, major cities such as Abadan and Khorramshahr in Khuzestan Province in southern Iran have also witnessed people’s protests against the water crisis. According to judicial authorities, a large number of people were arrested in these demonstrations.
The water crisis in the south of the country is more acute compared to other parts of Iran.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, local authorities are trying to solve the problem of water shortage and distribution in Borazjan.
Mehrdad Setoudeh, Deputy for Civil Affairs of Bushehr Province’s Governor, said: “Given that water inflow from the Karun Line to Dasht Bezhan has decreased by more than 50 percent, we will supply part of this county’s water from the Kausar Line.”
Keyqobad Yakideh, CEO of Bushehr Province’s Water and Wastewater Company, also announced well drilling to resolve the water shortage crisis. He emphasized in this regard: “Drilling 11 wells is on the agenda, two wells have been drilled so far, and two other wells will also be put into operation by next week or slightly later.”
