Record in Khuzestan: 70% of coronavirus deaths occurred within less than 24 hours after hospital admission

As concerns grow about the increase in more contagious cases and new variants of coronavirus in Iran, authorities are pointing to late patient referrals to hospitals. In Khuzestan province, it was reported that seventy percent of deaths involved people who had been admitted to the hospital less than 24 hours before their death.
Farhad Abolvazad, head of Jundishapur University in Ahvaz, said in a televised interview: The number of deaths relative to intubated patients is high. When we investigated the issue, we found that less than one-third of critically ill patients were hospitalized for less than 24 hours before dying, and 70 percent of them were intubated or died immediately upon arrival at the emergency room.
The head of Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences in Ahvaz said: These statistics show that people come to the hospital late or do not take symptoms seriously. Yesterday, nearly 50 percent of the patients I visited were infected with coronavirus.
Earlier, authorities had warned about the critical situation of coronavirus in Khuzestan province. Twelve cities in this province are in a red condition.
Iran’s Ministry of Health spokesperson announced on Thursday, the 14th of Esfand, the identification of 8,404 new coronavirus patients and 78 more deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The official statistics for the total number of coronavirus patients to date have reached 1 million, 665 thousand and 103 people, and a total of 60 thousand and 431 people have died from this disease. The official statistics of China, Russia, and Iran cannot be verified by independent experts and cannot be considered valid and final. Moreover, with the order of the Islamic Republic’s leader to ban the use of American and British coronavirus vaccines, there is no bright prospect for general vaccination in Iran.
