Second Iranian Tanker Carrying Gasoline Arrives in Venezuela

According to Reuters news agency, the second Iranian tanker carrying gasoline arrived at Venezuelan shores on Wednesday, September 9.

Iran sent 820,000 barrels of gasoline to Venezuela last month with three tankers.

The first tanker, named Forest, arrived in Venezuela on Monday, and the Fortune tanker also delivered its cargo on Wednesday. Reuters reports that the third tanker, named Faxon, will arrive in Venezuela by the end of this week and is not far from Venezuelan waters.

Four months ago, Iran had also delivered a total of 1.5 million barrels of gasoline to Venezuela with five tankers.

The United States has imposed sanctions on both countries, and on Monday, the foreign ministers of Iran and Venezuela held a video call to “establish a union among sanctioned countries against unilateral American sanctions.”

Venezuela has the world’s largest oil reserves, but lack of investment, corruption, and American sanctions have caused its daily oil production to drop from three million barrels to approximately 340,000 barrels, and most of its refineries have become outdated and non-operational.

In recent months, Venezuela has faced severe gasoline shortages, and Iran has supplied part of the country’s gasoline.

Recently, Iran also delivered a shipment of two million barrels of gas condensates to Venezuela. Gas condensate is a type of ultra-light crude oil, and by mixing it with Venezuela’s heavy crude oil, the refining process and gasoline production become easier.

The United States also seized a shipment of 1.1 million barrels of Iranian gasoline destined for Venezuela last month.
