Security Officials in Iran Raided Home of a Journalist

In continuation of pressures on journalists in Iran, reports indicate the home of Yagma Feshkhamí, an Iranian journalist, was raided.

The news website Emtedade Ruz reported on Wednesday, the 16th of Bahman, that on Sunday morning, the 13th of Bahman, security officials visited the home of journalist Yagma Feshkhamí. After searching the house, they confiscated some of the journalist’s personal items, including a computer, tablet, and mobile phone, and took them with them.

Additionally, the journalist was asked to report to a designated location at a specified time for further questioning.

Yagma Feshkhamí had previously been arrested twice in Iran, in the years 2014 and 2017.

In recent months, pressure on journalists in Iran has significantly increased. Recently, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported in a statement that Iran is among the world’s worst prisons for journalists, announcing an increase in the number of imprisoned journalists in the current year and following recent protests in Iran.

Continuing these crackdowns, Khosrow Sadeghi Brojeni, a journalist and researcher in the field of labor and social welfare, was sentenced to 8 years in prison by the Revolutionary Court. Pejman Mousavi is another journalist who, in the days before his summons to the prosecution, reported being charged with “spreading falsehoods” and “defamation.”

Previously, the U.S. State Department published a post titled “40 Years of Unfulfilled Promises” by the Islamic Republic on its Farsi Twitter account, writing about corruption, the absence of freedom of expression, the absence of justice, and unfulfilled economic promises by the Islamic Republic officials.
