Sullivan: Return to JCPOA Benefits America and Its Partners

The U.S. National Security Advisor says the United States is determined to ensure that Iran will not acquire nuclear weapons. According to the U.S. government, a mutual return to the JCPOA is in the interest of the United States and its partners.
The White House National Security Advisor emphasized on Monday, June 27 (Khordad 6) that the U.S. position regarding Iran’s nuclear program is clear. He said: “We are determined to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. We believe a diplomatic agreement is the best way to do this.”
Jake Sullivan told reporters at a press conference in Washington regarding indirect negotiations between the United States and Iran in Qatar: “We believe that a mutual return to the JCPOA is in the interest of the United States and our partners.”
Indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States with European Union mediation will begin on Tuesday, June 28 (Tir 7) after a three-month delay in Doha, Qatar.
The U.S. National Security Advisor added that “there is an agreement on the table for Iran, and it is up to Iran to decide whether to accept it or not.”
Iranian officials confirmed on Monday, Tir 6, that indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States with European Union mediation will take place in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday, Tir 6.
Meanwhile, Robert Malley, the U.S. Special Representative for Iran Affairs, arrived in Doha, Qatar on Monday to conduct these negotiations.
An Iranian official told Reuters that Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator, will be in Doha for negotiations on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 28 and 29.
These indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States in Doha, Qatar take place three days after Josep Borrell, the European Union’s foreign policy coordinator, traveled to Tehran.
Negotiations to revive the 2015 nuclear agreement that were underway in Vienna, the capital of Austria, stalled since Farvardin of the current year without reaching a result, and tensions over Iran’s nuclear file have increased during this period.
The issuance of a resolution by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency against Tehran due to lack of cooperation with the Agency and Iran’s response to disabling the Agency’s surveillance cameras were consequences of these tensions.
Josep Borrell said during his visit to Tehran: “After my visit, Vienna negotiations will begin and my team will be there. Reaching an agreement is important for the entire world because we have been living in a different world since February. The war between Russia and Ukraine continues, and if an agreement is reached in such an atmosphere, it is very important.”
