Tehran Police Chief Suspends Order Against Officers in Confrontation with Female Citizen

According to ISNA news agency citing the Tehran Police Command’s media center, an order by Hossein Rahimi, the head of Tehran Police, regarding the incidents at Police Park has been suspended.

As the Tehran Police media center stated, the police chief himself suspended this order: “Following preliminary investigations by the inspection unit of the Tehran Police Command (FATEB), General Hossein Rahimi suspended his previous order for the detention and dismissal of two officers and made its implementation or suspension conditional on the completion of investigations.”

According to reports, during the dispatch of Iranian police forces to “guide” a group of young citizens in Police Park, at least two officers “confronted” a female citizen.

In a video of this incident that circulated on social media, police officers were seen beating a woman while the citizen was resisting her arrest.

The widespread distribution of this video generated extensive reactions.

While the Tehran Police Command defended the officers’ actions in the process of “guiding” citizens, it announced the previous day that “two of our officers were also dismissed from their duties due to inappropriate conduct toward women in this park.”

Every year with the arrival of summer and a significant rise in temperatures in various parts of the country, confrontations between police forces and other officers with what is described as “improper hijab,” “lack of hijab,” “behavior contrary to Islamic norms,” “behavior contrary to religious law,” or “behavior contrary to public decency” increase.

These confrontations can occur at seaside areas, green spaces, mountains, or parks and include various issues such as swimming, water activities, and other matters.
