Three Afghan passenger planes transferred to Iran ‘without passengers’

The spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization announced on Thursday the transfer of several aircraft from the “Kam Air Afghanistan” airline company to Iran.

According to ISNA news agency, citing Mohammad Hassan Zibakhsh, following increased clashes and tension at Kabul airport, the owner of the private airline Kam Air Afghanistan requested the transfer of several aircraft from this company to Iranian airports.

According to him, three aircraft have so far landed at Iranian airports, but they were not carrying passengers.

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul on Wednesday, the 3rd of Shahrivar, advised its citizens not to go to Hamid Karzai International Airport and to keep away from the airport’s entrances.

Three countries—Britain, New Zealand, and Australia—also warned their citizens and visa holders to distance themselves from airport entrances and not to gather in the surrounding area, citing “threats of terrorist attacks.”

This is while foreigners who intend to leave Afghanistan have no other way out of Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, and some of them have been waiting outside the airport gates for several days.

U.S. forces and the international coalition are using Hamid Karzai International Airport to evacuate personnel, citizens of their respective countries, as well as Afghans at risk.

The evacuation operation from Kabul airport began 11 days ago, one day after Taliban forces seized Kabul.
