Trial of defendants in Tehran-Tabas plane crash begins after six years

Iranian media reported on Wednesday, July 9th, about the holding of the first session to hear charges against those responsible for the Tehran-Tabas plane crash after six years.
The Antonov 140 aircraft of Sepahan Airlines crashed on August 10, 2014, shortly after takeoff from the runway, experienced severe vibrations and suddenly hit the ground and caught fire.
The incident resulted in the death of 40 passengers and the injury of eight others.
In the court session, charges will be reviewed against four individuals including the former head of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, the director general of the Flight Operations Office, the former director general of the Engineering and Airworthiness Office and the director general of the Flight Standards Deputy of the Civil Aviation Organization.
As written by Iran Newspaper: Based on the indictment issued, the charges against these individuals are “complicity in the quasi-intentional killing of 40 people,” “participation in causing quasi-intentional killing of 40 people” and “participation in causing quasi-intentional assault and battery of eight people.”
Reza Jafarzadeh, the public relations director of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, 18 months after this accident, declared “technical defect” as the main cause of the plane crash.
