U.S. Treasury Department Sanctions Senior Iranian Regime Officials

The U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned senior officials of the Iranian regime on Monday, February 24, 2023.
Yesterday, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned four senior officials from law enforcement and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who oversee the suppression of popular protests and internet censorship.
The four individuals, who are regime security force operatives and have been sanctioned, are responsible for suppressing protesters in the revolutionary uprising (which began with the death of Mahsa Amini), as well as the new secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council of Cyberspace (an authority responsible for Iranian cyberspace policy and blocking popular websites).
The Treasury Department sanctions were implemented in coordination with the United Kingdom, and similar sanctions will also be imposed against other senior Iranian security officials.
Deputy Treasury Secretary “Brian Nelson” also stated regarding the regime’s suppression and violence against the Iranian people: “The people of Iran deserve freedom of expression without threat, violent retaliation, and censorship by those in power. The United States, alongside its allies and partners such as the United Kingdom, will continue to take action against those responsible for the regime’s violent suppression and censorship.”
