United Nations Calls for Continued Implementation of JCPOA

The Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, on the anniversary of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, while welcoming the agreement reached between Tehran and six world powers, has called for the preservation of the parties’ commitments and the continuation of its full implementation.

According to a report from the “UN Secretary-General’s Spokesperson Office,” the organization supports this agreement, which it has described as a “historic step,” and welcomes the announcement of “strong commitment” by the parties to its implementation.

According to Farhan Haq, the nuclear agreement and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action are beneficial to all countries that participated in its formation and contain “tangible benefits for the Iranian people.”

Mr. Haq said this agreement emphasizes the importance of diplomatic measures to create confidence in the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program, while also contributing to the promotion of security and peace in the region.

The United Nations says it will continue to support the JCPOA, based on Resolution 2231 and other related decisions in the Security Council.

The UN Security Council, on July 20, 2015, announced its support for the final agreement reached between Iran and the 5+1 group by issuing a resolution.

The UN statement on the anniversary of the implementation of this agreement was issued in December and coincides with a recent report from the International Atomic Energy Agency; a report that announced Iran has fulfilled another part of its commitments under the nuclear agreement with the international community, and has collected and transferred hundreds of centrifuges from the Fordow facility.

Donald Trump, the incoming president of the United States, who will take control of that country’s government in a few days, is considered a critic of the nuclear agreement.

He previously said he would “tear up” this deal, but recently stated “we will monitor the implementation of the agreement with such strictness that the Iranian government will have no way out.”

The nuclear agreement is considered part of Barack Obama’s legacy in U.S. foreign policy but has fierce critics among Republicans.

On the other hand, Iran has also claimed in recent months that the United States has not fulfilled all of its commitments regarding the lifting of sanctions. The U.S. government has rejected these accusations.

Iran, the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain, and Germany reached an agreement in July 2015 that on one hand limited Tehran’s nuclear activities and on the other hand lifted international sanctions against Iran.
