United States Boycotts UN Tribute to Iranian President

A U.S. official stated that the United States will boycott the United Nations ceremony honoring the Iranian president.
This Thursday, May 30, corresponding to June 10, a special session will be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York to pay tribute to the Iranian president. The United Nations General Assembly, composed of 193 members, traditionally convenes to honor world leaders who were heads of state at the time of their death, and speeches regarding “Ayatollah Ibrahim Raisi” will be delivered at today’s ceremony.
An unnamed U.S. official, while leveling accusations against Ibrahim Raisi, stated: “We will not participate in this event under any circumstances.” The U.S. official’s remarks came at a time when the United States had not previously reported boycotting this ceremony.
The UN Security Council stood in silence for one minute ten days ago, on May 20, to commemorate the victims of the helicopter crash carrying Ibrahim Raisi and his companions. Additionally, at the aforementioned ceremony, “Robert Wood,” Deputy U.S. Ambassador, stood reluctantly alongside 14 other counterparts, and the U.S. State Department formally conveyed its condolences on the same day.
