US and Israel Coordinate Efforts to Prevent Iran from Acquiring Nuclear Weapons

The United States and Israel have committed to coordinating their efforts to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons. In this regard, the two countries discussed economic and diplomatic measures as well as bilateral military cooperation.

In a statement released by the White House on Wednesday, June 1 (11 Khordad), US and Israeli officials committed to coordinating their efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

According to the statement, Jake Sullivan, US National Security Advisor, and Avi Kochavi, Israeli National Security Advisor, led two delegations that met and exchanged views with each other in Washington.

The statement also noted that officials from both countries discussed economic and diplomatic measures to achieve their objectives, as well as ongoing military cooperation between the US and Israel.

According to Reuters, the US, Germany, Britain, and France, ahead of the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Governors meeting, requested a draft resolution from the agency to “condemn” Iran for failing to answer the organization’s questions about the origin of uranium particles found at undeclared sites.

The International Atomic Energy Agency in its latest report emphasized that questions from the Islamic Republic regarding the origin of uranium particles found at three undeclared nuclear sites in Marivan, Varamin, and Turquzabad remain unanswered.

Efforts Against Islamic Republic’s Regional Activities

In a statement released by the White House on Wednesday, US and Israeli officials committed to coordinating bilateral efforts to counter the Islamic Republic’s aggressive regional activities.”

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned several days ago, stating that the Iranian government has been conducting terrorism against Israel and the region over the past decades through proxy forces and its representatives: “The era of immunity for the Iranian regime is over. Those who finance terrorists, those who arm terrorists, and those who send terrorists will pay the full price.”

Yesterday, Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, in response to the resolution, referring to the fact that Israel is the only nuclear weapons holder in the Middle East and North Africa, called the country the “number one enemy of the JCPOA and denier of the NPT.” He wrote on Twitter: “We will respond firmly and appropriately to any unconstructive measures in the Board of Governors.”

A new round of negotiations to revive the nuclear deal with Iran in Vienna was suspended in the spring of this year. The Islamic Republic of Iran had committed last March to answering the Agency’s questions about the origin of uranium at undeclared sites within three months. On Monday, May 30, the Agency reported that despite lengthy efforts to obtain clarifications from Iran, questions remain that are “unresolved.”
