Official coronavirus statistics in Iran; 72 more patients lost their lives

A spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Health said that 72 patients with coronavirus died in the past 24 hours.

Kianoush Jahanpour, who announced the official coronavirus statistics in Iran on Sunday, June 8, said that the total number of victims of the disease in Iran has reached 8,281.

He also announced the identification of 2,364 new patients over the past 24 hours, saying, "So far, 171,789 people have been definitively infected with the coronavirus."

According to the Ministry of Health spokesperson, 648 of the new patients have been hospitalized.

According to Iranian Ministry of Health officials, the number of hospitalized patients with coronavirus has increased compared to previous days.

Mr. Jahanpour also said that 2,596 patients infected with the coronavirus are in critical condition, and 134,349 patients have recovered so far.

According to the Ministry of Health spokesperson, nine cities in Khuzestan province are currently in red status, and Hormozgan and Kurdistan provinces are also in alert status.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health did not provide statistics on the status of people infected with the coronavirus in these provinces.

On June 8, Hormozgan Governor Fereydoun Hemmati expressed concern about the resurgence of the coronavirus in the province, saying that the ICU beds in Bandar Abbas hospitals were completely full.

The Ministry of Health's statistics on the coronavirus situation in Iran are being published at a time when some members of parliament and city council members have previously accused the Ministry of Health of concealing the number of deaths and infections from coronavirus.

The Parliamentary Research Center had previously estimated in a report that the number of deaths was double and the number of infected people was 8 to 10 times higher than the Ministry of Health's figures.
