Continued repression of civil liberties in Iran; 15 girls and boys arrested for participating in a "night party" in Qeshm

In the continuation of security clashes with mixed parties in Iran and in line with the suppression of civil liberties, this time the Qeshm police commander has announced the arrest of 15 girls and boys for attending a party in one of the city's entertainment centers.

Iran's Tasnim news agency reported on Sunday, November 25, quoting Hossein Elahi, the police commander of Qeshm, that in the past few days, 15 boys and girls have been arrested by "judicial order" for what he claimed was "creating social disorders."

The police official said that the youths were present at the entertainment complex “in an inappropriate state.” However, the news agency had earlier quoted the commander of the Qeshm Basij Resistance District as saying that 15 people had been arrested and detained “for holding a night party at one of the coastal resorts in Qeshm city.” However, this news was removed from the news agency’s website shortly after.

Holding parties with the presence of girls and boys, mainly family, friends, and acquaintances, is common in many parts of Iran; however, religious and law enforcement authorities consider it a crime and, upon being informed, arrest those present.

The US Department of State has repeatedly condemned the Islamic Republic of Iran's violent actions against the people of Iran under various pretexts, including violations of civil liberties such as freedom of assembly and freedom of choice of clothing, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by agents of the regime.
