Asghar Amirzadegan, a teacher and union activist from Fars Province, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Revolutionary Court of this province.

An informed source told VOA on Thursday, August 8, that Asghar Amirzadegan, who was arrested earlier in April of this year following a summons to the Firouzabad County Prosecutor's Office and spent a day in detention, has been sentenced to one year in prison by Akbar Rousta, judge of the Revolutionary Court of Fars Province, on charges of "propaganda against the system."

According to this informed source, the last hearing of this case was held on June 18, and the court's verdict was communicated to this union activist on Monday, August 5.

On the other hand, Asghar Amirzadegan was sentenced to six months in prison by the judge in another case, which was held on June 15 by Branch 101 of Criminal Court 2 of Firoorabad County, on charges of "insulting officials" and "spreading lies."

According to information received by Voice of America, Mr. Amirzadegan's six-month prison sentence has been suspended for 18 months, and the union activist's one-year prison sentence has been suspended for two years.

Asghar Amirzadegan was arrested on April 11, after going to the Firouzabad County Prosecutor's Office after receiving a written summons. On Sunday, May 1, he was temporarily released on bail of 20 million Tomans until the end of the trial.
