Transfer of Christian citizen Mehran Shamloui to Greater Tehran Prison

"Mehran Shamloui", a Christian citizen, was transferred to Greater Tehran Prison to serve his prison sentence.

Mehran Shamloui was arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence on November 11, 1403, for forming a house church in Tehran and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. He was released from Evin Prison on bail in December, and the court hearing for his case was held on February 15, 1403, in Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court.

Shamloui was sentenced by the aforementioned branch to 10 years and 8 months in prison, a fine of 250 million, and 11 years of deprivation of social rights on charges of "propaganda activity contrary to Islamic law" and "membership in opposition groups in the country." This sentence was confirmed in Ordibehesht 1404 by Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeal.

He had left Iran for Turkey in the past three months and after numerous attempts to leave illegally through one of the Turkish airports, he was arrested and then transferred to a refugee camp. Shamloui, who had stayed in the camp for some time, returned to Iran voluntarily.

Mehran Shamloui was arrested at Mashhad Airport and transferred to a security detention center in Mashhad immediately after arriving in Iran on July 3. A resident of Tehran, he was transferred to Tehran Grand Prison on Monday, July 6, to serve his sentence of 10 years and 8 months in prison.

The issuance of a heavy sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine, and deprivation of social rights against him has sparked widespread reactions from human rights organizations and has raised concerns about the situation of religious minorities in Iran.
