Iran calls "sabotage" on commercial ships "worrying"

Iran's foreign minister has reacted to incidents involving commercial vessels around the port of Fujairah. The secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council has also condemned "sabotage" operations against four commercial vessels. The attacks did not result in any casualties.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman called the incidents involving the Omani ships “worrying and regrettable” on Monday morning. The Iranian official called for “the precise dimensions” of the incident to be clarified. Abbas Mousavi warned against “any plot by ill-wishers to disrupt stability and security in the region.” He called on regional countries to be vigilant against any “adventures by foreign elements.”
According to information released by the United Arab Emirates government, four commercial ships in the Persian Gulf near Fujairah have been targeted in attacks described as "sabotage operations."
Sabotage on Saudi oil tankers
In the late hours of Sunday, May 12, the German news agency published news about attacks on four commercial ships in the Persian Gulf.
UAE officials have not provided any further details about the attacks or “sabotage operations” to the media, other than to say that there were no casualties and that no toxic substances were released into the water.
In this regard, on Monday, May 13, the Agence France-Presse published a report from Riyadh, reporting sabotage attacks against two Saudi oil tankers in the waters of the Persian Gulf.
According to the news, two Saudi oil tankers have been attacked by sabotage in the commercial waters of the port of Fujairah. One of the tankers was carrying oil destined for the United States. The news was announced by the official Saudi Press Agency, quoting Saudi Energy Minister Khalid Falih.
Arab countries' reaction
The news site "Spiegel Online" also reported, citing news agencies, the reaction of some Arab countries, as well as the statements of the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, has condemned any action that leads to conflict or increased tension in the region.
The Egyptian government has also criticized any action that "harms the national security of the United Arab Emirates" in connection with attacks on commercial ships in the Persian Gulf waters.
