Some citizens arrested by the Khorasan Razavi Corps on charges of "encouraging gatherings"

The Revolutionary Guards of Khorasan Razavi Province have announced that they have arrested several citizens on charges of "encouraging gatherings and protests."

The IRGC's announcement, which was released on the evening of Friday, July 17, did not mention the location of the arrests or their number, but given the reports published about the possibility of a gathering in the city of Mashhad and the presence of special units in the city, it appears that the arrested individuals are residents of this city.

In a statement about the arrested individuals, the Revolutionary Guards have raised several other charges, such as "espionage against national security, incitement to riots, and attempts to disrupt public order through cyberspace."

The announcement also identified the detained citizens as "main elements of hostile groups" who, according to the IRGC, were in "contact with counter-revolutionary networks."

In Iran, the urgent filing of widespread and unsubstantiated accusations against protesting citizens is always on the agenda of military and security institutions.
