US building bunker-busting bomb for possible attack on Iran
The Associated Press reported on a new American bunker-busting bomb for a possible US attack on Iran.
As tensions with Iran over its nuclear program escalate, the US military has released images of a powerful bomb designed to penetrate deep into the earth and destroy underground facilities used to enrich uranium, according to the Associated Press.
The images of the weapon, called the GBU-57 and known as the “massive munitions penetrator,” were released on May 2 but were immediately removed due to sensitive details about its composition and destructive power. The images of the bomb’s construction have been re-released on social media, and their release comes as Iran is making progress on building a nuclear facility that, according to the Associated Press, is likely to be beyond the range of the GBU-57.
The United States has also developed a "massive munitions penetrator" bomb-making system due to concerns about Iran building underground nuclear sites in order to protect itself from possible attacks.
