The arrest of Hamid Nouri, one of the perpetrators of the 1988 executions, has been extended again in Sweden.

A Swedish court has extended the detention of Hamid Nouri, a former assistant prosecutor in the Islamic Republic's judiciary, in connection with the 1988 execution case in Sweden for the third time.

Iraj Mosadaghi, a former political prisoner and human rights activist, announced on Wednesday, January 8, on his Twitter account that the Swedish Central Court prosecutor has extended the detention of Hamid Nouri, suspected of participating in mass murder, for the third time, and he will remain in detention until Wednesday, February 6.

This former political prisoner also called on people who, as witnesses, wish to file a complaint against the former assistant prosecutor in the Islamic Republic's judicial system to take advantage of the opportunity and contact the police or a lawyer to handle their complaint.

Previously, the Voice of America had announced in a news release that Hamid Nouri, alias "Hamid Abbasi," a former assistant prosecutor in the Iranian judiciary who, according to available documents, is a "member of the execution squad in Gohardasht, Karaj, in 1988," was arrested in Sweden on Saturday, November 9.

Kaveh Mousavi, a lawyer and private plaintiff in Mr. Nouri's case, had previously told Radio Farda that he had requested that the prosecutor in Sweden "keep Mr. Nouri in custody for at least a year to complete the case."

According to him, Hamid Nouri, who served as an assistant prosecutor in Evin Prison in Tehran and Gohardasht Prison in Karaj in 2018, was arrested based on documents and evidence that Iraj Mesdaghi, a former political prisoner and human rights activist, has collected over the years.

The news of Hamid Nouri's arrest in Sweden has been welcomed by some human rights organizations, including Amnesty International; in a statement, the human rights organization called the arrest of this defendant by the Swedish government a "historic act."

The US State Department's Persian Twitter also posted a text on Twitter on Thursday, November 13, saying that Mr. Nouri will face justice for his role in the execution of thousands of prisoners in the summer of 2018, many of whom were political and ideological prisoners.

In 2018, by order of Ayatollah Khomeini, the Islamic Republic reviewed the cases of several thousand political prisoners, many of whom had previously been tried, and sentenced many of them to death.

The execution of these prisoners, who were members of political organizations such as the People's Mojahedin, the People's Fedayeen, the Tudeh Party, etc., took place without the knowledge of their families. The time of execution and the burial place of many of them are also unknown.

Islamic Republic officials refuse to provide exact statistics on those executed, but Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri wrote in his memoirs that the number of those executed was between 2,800 and 3,800.

Opponents of the Islamic Republic, however, say the number of executions is much higher than this figure.
