Five Citizens Arrested for Sharing Images on Social Media

Five citizens in two different cities have been arrested for sharing images on social media.

The campaign against “unveiling” has been enforced by Commander Radan since the beginning of the current Persian year. Individuals who appear without mandatory hijab in public places or those present in their vehicles without a hijab are sentenced to pay various fines by judicial authorities.

The freedom-seeking people of Iran, following nationwide protests that began in September 2022 with the death of Mahsa Amini due to improper hijab, demonstrated their courage and bravery against the Islamic Republic regime in unity and solidarity. They not only showed no fear of suppression, arrest, torture, and killing by the system, but also continued their opposition against the regime and to claim one of their rights from the Islamic Republic—mandatory covering—by appearing in streets and public places with voluntary clothing. This solidarity remains as strong as ever.

Now in the city of Rasht, four teenage girls have been arrested by security forces for sharing images on social media under the title of “unveiling,” and after filing cases, they have been referred to judicial authorities. The head of the cyber police in North Khorasan also reported the arrest of an individual in Bojnord for posting immoral images on social media.

The regime’s judicial authorities have overlooked far greater problems that include investigating cases of murder, embezzlement, and others, yet immediately after seeing several photos without hijab or individuals present in public places with voluntary clothing, they react and proceed to arrest them. A matter on which even officials and clergy themselves disagree.

Some clergy have also reacted to the arrest of individuals for not wearing a hijab, declaring that “hijab” is an optional matter and the Quran says nothing about the type of women’s clothing. They stated that these suppressions and arrests due to women not covering themselves are unjustified, and that there are more important issues that the regime should address.
