Sit-in at Tehran University to protest the exclusion of starred students from education

A group of students from the University of Tehran staged a sit-in on the university campus in support of Soha Mortezaei, a student deprived of education, and in protest against the rulings that deprived students of education.

According to news and images published on social media, in this sit-in, which was held on Tuesday, October 20, 2019, following a call by the university's union council, students protested the denial of their union rights.

Soha Mortezaei, a student deprived of education and former secretary of the Central Student Union Council of Tehran University, has been holding a sit-in in front of the Central Library of Tehran University for about 10 days.

Soha Mortezaei, who was arrested during the protests in January 2017, has been sentenced to six years in prison and a two-year ban from membership in political parties and groups.

This student's exclusion from education comes at a time when one of Hassan Rouhani's campaign promises during the presidential election was to return star-rated students to education.
