Isfahan-based songwriter and literary activist sentenced to prison

Kasra Tabrizi, a songwriter and literary activist living in Isfahan, was sentenced to 6 months in prison by the Revolutionary Court.

Kasra Tabrizi announced on his Instagram page that he was sentenced to six months in prison on charges of "propaganda against the regime" on Wednesday, June 11, when he appeared before the Revolutionary Court. Mr. Tabrizi said that this sentence will be final and binding in Zahedan Prison.

According to published information, the hearing of this case was held on May 19, 2019, and this verdict was issued for this literary activist by Branch 2 of the Zahedan Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Javad Mousavi.

Kasra Tabrizi had previously announced on Instagram by posting a picture of his summons that he would also be tried on Wednesday, June 11, in the second part of the same case on the charge of "spreading lies in cyberspace with the intention of disturbing public opinion" by Branch 106 of Zahedan Criminal Court 2, presided over by Judge Khodaverdi.

According to the published news, this poet and literary activist was arrested by Isfahan security forces in late February 2018 following a complaint from the Zahedan Public Prosecutor and Revolution for his participation in the protest rallies in Zahedan in January 2017. After more than a month, in late March of the same year, he was temporarily released on bail of 500 million Tomans until the end of the proceedings.

The US State Department has repeatedly condemned the Islamic Republic of Iran's violent actions against the people of Iran under various pretexts, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by agents of the regime.
