A number of prominent women around the world have called for the Islamic Republic to be expelled from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

A group of prominent women who are members of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women have written a letter calling for the Islamic Republic to be expelled from the commission.
The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is a subsidiary body of the United Nations, established with the aim of gender equality and contributing to the advancement of women, and is considered the highest oversight authority in the field of women in this organization.
The Islamic Republic officially began a four-year term in the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women at the beginning of this year, but this membership was met with many negative reactions from human rights and women's rights activists.
A letter prepared and published by the commission to expel the Islamic Republic refers to recent events in Iran, which include the violent suppression of popular protests. The letter condemns the Iranian government and declares that this oppressive regime should be disqualified for its long-standing and systematic oppression of women, as well as its recent brutality against protesters.
The signatories of this letter emphasized that for every day that the Islamic Republic remains on the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the institution loses its credibility.
The expulsion of these criminals and violators of women's rights from such a foundation should have been done years ago. Now, this right move is being made possible thanks to the efforts of many Iranian women abroad.
These prominent women also emphasized that now is the time for leaders of the international community to stand in solidarity with Iranian women and girls to protect their rights.
The letter's signatories include prominent figures such as Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and Laura Bush, the three first ladies of the United States. Also included are Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, television host Oprah Winfrey, former Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland and former UN Secretary-General Christina Figueres. In addition to these prominent figures, the letter has been signed by 21,000 others.
The signatories of this letter also declared: In solidarity with Iranian women and girls who are courageously protesting for their human rights, we condemn the brutal violence and repression of security forces and demand the immediate expulsion of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.
